Compared to solar and traditional street lights, solar & wind hybrid road lights offer the dual advantages of both wind and solar energy. When there’s no wind, solar panels can generate electricity and store it in batteries. When there’s wind but no sunlight, wind turbines can generate electricity and store it in batteries. When both wind and sunlight are available, both can generate electricity simultaneously. Wind-solar hybrid LED street lights are suitable for both low-wind areas and areas with strong winds and sandstorms.
Advantages of wind-solar hybrid solar street lights
1. High Economic Benefits
Solar & wind hybrid road lights require no transmission lines and consume no energy, resulting in significant economic benefits.
2. Energy conservation and emission reduction, protecting the environment, and eliminating high future electricity bills.
Solar & wind hybrid road lights are powered by naturally renewable solar and wind energy, eliminating the consumption of non-renewable energy and emitting no pollutants into the atmosphere, thus reducing pollution emissions to zero. This also eliminates high future electricity bills.
Important considerations when purchasing solar & wind hybrid road lights
1. Wind Turbine Selection
The wind turbine is the hallmark of solar & wind hybrid road lights. The most critical factor in selecting a wind turbine is its operational stability. Since the light pole is not a fixed tower, care should be taken to prevent the fixtures of the lampshade and solar mount from loosening due to vibration during operation. Another key factor in selecting a wind turbine is its aesthetic appearance and light weight to reduce the load on the pole.
2. Designing the Optimal Power Supply System Configuration
Ensuring the lighting duration of street lights is a key performance indicator. As an independent power supply system, solar & wind hybrid road lights require optimized design from lamp selection to wind turbine design.
3. Pole Strength Design
Pole strength design should be based on the capacity and mounting height requirements of the selected wind turbine and solar cell, as well as local natural resource conditions, to determine the appropriate pole and structure.
Solar & wind hybrid road light maintenance and care
1. Inspect the wind turbine blades. Check for deformation, corrosion, defects, or cracks. Blade deformation can cause uneven wind sweep, while corrosion and defects can lead to uneven weight distribution on the blades, causing uneven rotation or vibration in the wind turbine. If cracks are found in the blades, determine whether they are caused by material stress or other factors. Regardless of the cause, any visible cracks should be replaced.
2. Inspect the fasteners, fixing screws, and wind turbine rotation mechanism of the wind-solar hybrid solar street light. Check for loose connections, rust, or other problems. Tighten or replace any problems immediately. Manually rotate the wind turbine blades to check for free rotation. If the blades do not rotate smoothly or make unusual noises, this indicates a problem.
3. Measure the electrical connections between the wind turbine housing, pole, and ground. A smooth electrical connection effectively protects the wind turbine system from lightning strikes.
4. Measure the output voltage of the wind turbine when rotating in a light breeze or when the street light manufacturer manually rotates it. A voltage approximately 1V higher than the battery voltage is normal. If the output voltage drops below the battery voltage during rapid rotation, this indicates a problem with the wind turbine’s output.
