Standard spacing for double-arm street light pole installation

Double-arm street light poles’ installation spacing shall strictly comply with ‘Urban Road Lighting Design Standard’ (CJJ 45-2015), taking into account the road grade, pole parameters, layout, and environmental conditions so as to ensure the uniform illumination of the road surface and no blind spots. Here are 4 basic specifications from the street light pole factory Tianxiang.

I. Spacing Specifications Based on Base Ratio

1. Adhere to the height-to-pole ratio principle:

The ratio of pole spacing to pole height for double-arm street light poles shall be maintained between 3.5:1 and 4.5:1. This ratio is not allowed to be exceeded.

2. Standard parameters:

6-8 meters of rural and municipal branch road poles, the standard distance is 20-25 meters, 9-12 meters of urban main road poles, the standard distance is 25-30 meters, maximum of 30 meters.

3. Power adaptation adjustment:

In the case of higher light source power, the spacing can be appropriately widened; in the case of insufficient power, the spacing must be narrowed to avoid insufficient illumination.

II. Spacing Criteria for Different Layout Techniques

Symmetrical Double-sided Layout:

Suitable for two-way main roads with multiple lanes. Dual arm road lamp poles are mounted symmetrically with a regular spacing of 28-30 m, resulting in a high uniformity of illuminance.

Double-sided Staggered Layout:

For wider city streets. Dual arm road lamp poles are staggered and are spaced 30-45 meters apart so that there will be no dark spots on the road surface.

Single-side Double-arm Layout:

Suitable only for narrow roads. Spacing is very controlled, at 20-25 meters; one side is not fully lit.

III. Road Grade Spacing Requirements

Main Roads in Urban Areas:

In high-speed traffic, a uniform spacing of 25 to 30 meters is desirable to give drivers continuous visibility at night.

Secondary Roads and Park Roads:

A spacing of 22-28 meters is recommended to get an optimal balance between lighting effect and economy.

Rural Roads and Sidewalks:

For basic lighting needs, a spacing of 20-25 m is adequate with simple road conditions and low vehicle speeds.

Intersections, Curves, and Slopes:

Reduce spacing by 10-20% to improve lighting in critical areas.

IV. Special Environmental Modification Standards

In densely green areas, trees can easily block the light, so the spacing between dual arm road lamp poles can be appropriately reduced to make up for the light loss. If it rains, is foggy, or windy, and visibility is reduced, the spacing should be reduced by 10% to improve visibility on the road. Make more lights at intersections, bus stops, school entrances and other crowded places, and shorten the distance between lights to avoid blind spots and ensure traffic safety.

Street light pole factory Tianxiang’s double-arm street light poles are made of high-quality Q235 steel, with overall hot-dip galvanizing for corrosion, rust, and typhoon resistance. It can be equipped with double high and low light arms, which are suitable for municipal main roads, rural roads and park roads. The pole body is bent, polished, and coated with electrostatic powder. Specifications range from 6 to 12 meters, with non-standard customization available. Available with mains power and solar lighting systems. Stable installation and long service life.
